About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. coaphoto.com 231.549.2038

My DUDES.

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

I can not express how much these two boys mean to me. Braylan saw the glasses and hat on the table and wanted one picture. His were taking in less than one minute… then I waited for help for Grayson’s one minute session. Can’t wait to hang them up!

My boys

So the word busy… I never imagined it could mean more than it already did before having another kid. :) Yikes. Working, Braylan starting school, being up for hours at night with Grayson, house work, Dr. appointments, taxes, cooking… I could go on and on. I also reinjured my back. From 28 weeks on my back and sciatic nerve was terrible. This past month I’ve had a hard tine with lifting my chunky monkey.

So you will see a little of what we’ve been up too. Braylan has been exploring his feelings. I’m happy, I’m mad, I’m sad… I knows exactly what they all mean and tells me! His facial expressions usually say it all too! I have been taking pics of me and Grayson every 4 weeks to show his growth. Plus I always said I would never match my kids… and I did. I don’t like to always do it but I had to this once!

Personal post!

Gosh do I love that I get to spend so much time with my boys! So snowy outside and toasty here in the house. Braylan keeps wanting to cuddle with me and his baby brother. The other night we were laying around watching TV and Braylan said he wanted to hold his brother. He was already in his diaper so we pulled off Grayson’s jammies and I am so in love with the pictures we got from them together! Then today I decided to put him in his tie onesie and grab some quick pictures in front of our sliding door since the light was perfect. I was cracking up at the faces he was making and the picking his nose pic. Nothing better than being a mommy!

I also have been writing down all the funny/cute things Braylan says during this time so I can show them when they are older.

What Braylan says:
“Mama! I love Grayson’s ears… they are like crabby patties.”
“HEY STOP eating my mama’s belly. It’s my turn to drink dirty milk.”
“Sorry brother I was bad when we were taking your pictures.”
“Hey Grayson! Watch me go potty.”
“Mom! Where did your belly go?” -SO WORRIED
“Grayson want to smell my arm pits?”
“I love rubbing my brothers head softly.”
“Don’t vacuum! Your scaring my brotherrrrrrr…..” -Braylan is scared of the vacuum
“Why does Grayson make them sounds all the time?” -He grunts constantly

I can’t believe how much they are looking alike!

LIFESTYLE NEWBORN: Fauser

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

I really love getting to know this family! I photographed them two winters ago in a lifestyle engagement shoot… their wedding was last fall… and now they welcomed their second son into the world this past summer. They invited me to photograph in their home to catch the special moments they share daily. Easton is such a good big brother to Finn! He cracked me up the whole time I was there. :)

FAMILY: Dixon

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Every year I get excited to shoot the Dixon family session. Last year we went to the beach and this year Jenna said she wanted woods and something more rustic. I took them to a place that is one of my favorites and right up the street from where I grew up. I love using the old garage door… the hill me and the neighborhood kids used to sled down and back where the first Boyne Falls School used to me.

I absolutely think that a vintage themed session is the best thing ever right now! Alicia nailed it with these clothes and the kids did so great! I love photographing their family and getting to know them over the last couple years. I can never believe how each time I see them Hadley and Wyatt just grow so much…

FAMILY: Maginity

What an awesome family! We had the most perfect weather the day we did this family session and it was also Lisa’s birthday! My very favorite picture from their session is the first one posted here… you can just feel the love the share for each other.

FAMILY: Fruge

I really like to photograph on murky gloomy days… no matter what angle or direction the lighting is great. Courtney had me come to the beach down by their house in Boyne City. Such a nice place! There was even a fish pond they like to take the boys to.

CHILDREN: Beau and Westyn

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

These little country boys are one of my best friends kids! She is expecting another May 2014. :) So excited! I love sharing memories with her and our kids. For the last couple years we do their summer shoot around Beau’s birthday in July on their farm.

FAMILY: Coates

Picking pictures for my blog and seeing the beach I so wish it was still this nice out! I don’t usually do family pictures with all teenage kids but I wish that I did! I think people think when their kids get to teenager age and take pictures of them playing sports, dances and other things they forget to get family pictures done. I highly encourage people to book sessions to capture times like these… I think the Coates Family would agree!
