About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. coaphoto.com 231.549.2038

My DUDES.

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

I can not express how much these two boys mean to me. Braylan saw the glasses and hat on the table and wanted one picture. His were taking in less than one minute… then I waited for help for Grayson’s one minute session. Can’t wait to hang them up!

still waiting on our little guy

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

Oh what better to do when 39 weeks pregnant than to have lots of time to have ideas and no clients to use them on. :) I have never had this much time off… I was still editing the week I brought Braylan home which I’m super happy I won’t have to do. I have a couple late Dec. shoots for clients traveling from afar. So still a while to use these ideas on my own family. Our plan was to have the lil guy a couple weeks early and to be induced but his lungs weren’t ready so we had some time to wait. Now we are almost 40 weeks and I’m getting impatient but reminding myself I’m lucky to carry my kids full term. All I can ask for is for hi to be healthy and to have a safe and natural birth. I hope my next post is of my babies face!

SENIOR: Kendra

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

This is my Boyne Falls Senior Rep Kendra! I must tell you that this session was one of the most fun senior sessions I have done. We braves the elements and got some awesome shots. I wrote this on my facebook sneak preview after I took her pictures… but at the end of her session we were running for tree coverage fro the pouring down rain. Not to mention my baby belly was already large and it was probably a sight to see. We can across wild animals in the bushes… it was hot. We were laughing the whole time. Then I would say, “Okay let’s to a serious one.” And then we would laugh more. :) So fun!

FAMILY: Fruge

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

I really like to photograph on murky gloomy days… no matter what angle or direction the lighting is great. Courtney had me come to the beach down by their house in Boyne City. Such a nice place! There was even a fish pond they like to take the boys to.

Castle Farms Wedding Show 2013

Monday, October 28th, 2013

I met so many awesome bride, grooms, bridesmaids and some parents this past Sunday at the Castle Farms Annual Wedding Show. This year my mom helped me a super ton… she usually helps me a lot but she really took over since I’m pretty limited to what I can do. I’m sooo thankful! I think my booth this year was my favorite of all wedding shows I have ever attended. Also I completely do not know how I forgot but I am going to blame it on baby brain… I did not add my website, phone number OR email to my brochures. Grrrr.

I don’t have many dates left for 2014 but I chatted with a lot of 2015 brides too so I’m excited about the next couple years of business!

Castle Farms Wedding: Brandi and Tim

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

From the moment I met them at their engagement session I knew that we were a great fit! I can’t tell you how much I smiled while shooting their big day. From the details, the moments of love, the speeches, funny guests and just the happiness these two share just made the best time! I also entered a contest Castle Farms was hosting for their vendors to win a cover spot on the bridal magazine they give to booking couples with Brandi and Tim’s photo… and thanks to my facebook fans, friends family and all of Brandi and Tim’s peeps I won! I am so very grateful for all the support!

Family in the SNOW!

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

Ok when I say I had fun at this session… I’m not kidding! I hate being cold but it didn’t even bother me one bit. This family was cool with any idea I had. These kids are so VERY polite and funny. I hope to photograph them again some day. :)

Engagement: Erica and Rob

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

These two were driving up from downstate the morning of their shoot and their truck broke down. They called to tell me they may be running late… they showed up on time… with a speeding ticket. OH MAN. I would have been in the worst mood ever! They were awesome. We joked around a little bit and started on our way. We went to a new location I’ve been wanting to sneak up to. It was a super fun morning with them! It’s so great to get to know people before their wedding… I feel like they are my friends on the day. :)

Curtis and Charlotte

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I finally got to use my vintage scale!! Mom and Aunt were so helpful…. took a little time but we got it. Curtis is a really content baby! He didn’t mind us messing with him at all. Charlotte was super good too… it’s boring for a 5 year old to wait around while we try to pose a newborn but she was great.
