About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. coaphoto.com 231.549.2038

At home with the Blackwell boys…

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

So I have been busy. It’s a pretty big adjustment adding a baby into the mix. Braylan was doing amazing until he decided he wants our full attention again. He is still doing good… he’s super loving and nice to Grayson. I started my wedding season in February on top of doing winter minis all month. We also got hit with not 1 but 2 virus’ in one month. With all the craziness we are so very blessed to have two awesome boys!

Good thing Grayson has a high tolerance for his big bro. Not often does he get mad for cheek squishing or loud yelling.

We missed his buddy Westyn’s birthday party because we were all sick but he still got his super hero stuff and wears it often!

Bray wants to be just like Daddy!

By far my favorite pictures of Grayson! :)

We love to play with cars, trucks, buses and trains. Bray makes up stories about his lego guys going on a bus to school to learn how to be a pilot.

Braylan stands with the fridge door open for long periods of time at night looking for snacks.

We make crafts a lot. Grayson loves his ExerSaucer so he bounces around a little while we get artsy!

I got our wall display done on one of our living room walls!

My boys

So the word busy… I never imagined it could mean more than it already did before having another kid. :) Yikes. Working, Braylan starting school, being up for hours at night with Grayson, house work, Dr. appointments, taxes, cooking… I could go on and on. I also reinjured my back. From 28 weeks on my back and sciatic nerve was terrible. This past month I’ve had a hard tine with lifting my chunky monkey.

So you will see a little of what we’ve been up too. Braylan has been exploring his feelings. I’m happy, I’m mad, I’m sad… I knows exactly what they all mean and tells me! His facial expressions usually say it all too! I have been taking pics of me and Grayson every 4 weeks to show his growth. Plus I always said I would never match my kids… and I did. I don’t like to always do it but I had to this once!

Personal post!

Gosh do I love that I get to spend so much time with my boys! So snowy outside and toasty here in the house. Braylan keeps wanting to cuddle with me and his baby brother. The other night we were laying around watching TV and Braylan said he wanted to hold his brother. He was already in his diaper so we pulled off Grayson’s jammies and I am so in love with the pictures we got from them together! Then today I decided to put him in his tie onesie and grab some quick pictures in front of our sliding door since the light was perfect. I was cracking up at the faces he was making and the picking his nose pic. Nothing better than being a mommy!

I also have been writing down all the funny/cute things Braylan says during this time so I can show them when they are older.

What Braylan says:
“Mama! I love Grayson’s ears… they are like crabby patties.”
“HEY STOP eating my mama’s belly. It’s my turn to drink dirty milk.”
“Sorry brother I was bad when we were taking your pictures.”
“Hey Grayson! Watch me go potty.”
“Mom! Where did your belly go?” -SO WORRIED
“Grayson want to smell my arm pits?”
“I love rubbing my brothers head softly.”
“Don’t vacuum! Your scaring my brotherrrrrrr…..” -Braylan is scared of the vacuum
“Why does Grayson make them sounds all the time?” -He grunts constantly

I can’t believe how much they are looking alike!

Grayson Jonah Blackwell

Sunday, December 8th, 2013

We have been blessed with our baby boy at last.
Grayson Jonah was born on 11-30-13
9:41pm – 21in. – 8lbs 14oz

He is amazing and we are all soaking up every second!
Braylan has been beyond awesome. Kisses and I love you’s all day long. He wants to help and says some of the funniest things ever.
We had both Grayson and Braylan at Charlevoix Area Hospital and want to say how much I loved the care we received both time. Of course we love Dr. Jeakle and would never choose another Doctor but the nurses are also so caring and go above and beyond. A special shout of to Vicki. During hard labor she really made a huge difference for me with Grayson. :)

still waiting on our little guy

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

Oh what better to do when 39 weeks pregnant than to have lots of time to have ideas and no clients to use them on. :) I have never had this much time off… I was still editing the week I brought Braylan home which I’m super happy I won’t have to do. I have a couple late Dec. shoots for clients traveling from afar. So still a while to use these ideas on my own family. Our plan was to have the lil guy a couple weeks early and to be induced but his lungs weren’t ready so we had some time to wait. Now we are almost 40 weeks and I’m getting impatient but reminding myself I’m lucky to carry my kids full term. All I can ask for is for hi to be healthy and to have a safe and natural birth. I hope my next post is of my babies face!

Mini Session ?’s and FAQ:

How long do mini sessions last?

Each mini session is 20 minutes long. There will be other sessions booked in the time slots around your session… so each session is timed.

Is there a limit to the number of people that can be included in the session?

Mini-sessions are limited to immediate families of 6 or smaller. If you have a larger family, I recommend you book a full session. $10 will be added for each person over 6.

How do we reserve our session?

Sessions are booked on a first come, first serve basis. All bookings do require a $50 retainer to hold your spot. You can pay via check, cash or paypal.

What should we wear to the Mini Session?

Bright colors look great! They provide visual interest and make your portraits “pop”! Try to avoid graphic prints and being to matchy. Only 1 outfit will be allowed for mini sessions due to the time restraints.

When will our online gallery be available and how do we get our CD?

2 weeks after your session your online gallery will be loaded. They gallery will be up for 7 days to make your choice.
CD’s can be picked up at the studio or you can pay $5 to have it shipped. There will be on option for your choice in the cart.

Can we purchase more images on our CD?

Yes! 10 images with the package price will be included… each additional image if desired can be purchased afterward for $10 each. Each mini session is different and the number of ending images will also depend. The number will not go over 15 to choose from.

my cupid

I’ve been on a good role taking pictures of my little man this winter. I’m a little proud of myself. Last year he hated my camera so I would give up for periods of time. Today my sister and neice had an “ice day” from school so before my husband went to work we dropped by the studio. I’ve had this idea since last Valentine’s day. I had the kissing booth last year… this year I thought we would keep it clean and cute. Tomorrow I will post Elleana’s take. :)

Florida

Monday, May 7th, 2012

It’s been a week since we got back from our family vacation to Florida. We stayed in St. Pete Beach and the weather was great. We had our ups and downs with a sick one year old… but he did his best. Hopefully it’s a stage but you will see his face in the pictures… he hates the water! Ocean… pools… even the bath in St. Pete. :) Here is a couple pics I had a chance to edit. I will post more when I get a chance to go through them. I am catching up editing and designing some albums and shooting a few sessions this week.
