About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. coaphoto.com 231.549.2038

My DUDES.

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

I can not express how much these two boys mean to me. Braylan saw the glasses and hat on the table and wanted one picture. His were taking in less than one minute… then I waited for help for Grayson’s one minute session. Can’t wait to hang them up!

At home with the Blackwell boys…

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

So I have been busy. It’s a pretty big adjustment adding a baby into the mix. Braylan was doing amazing until he decided he wants our full attention again. He is still doing good… he’s super loving and nice to Grayson. I started my wedding season in February on top of doing winter minis all month. We also got hit with not 1 but 2 virus’ in one month. With all the craziness we are so very blessed to have two awesome boys!

Good thing Grayson has a high tolerance for his big bro. Not often does he get mad for cheek squishing or loud yelling.

We missed his buddy Westyn’s birthday party because we were all sick but he still got his super hero stuff and wears it often!

Bray wants to be just like Daddy!

By far my favorite pictures of Grayson! :)

We love to play with cars, trucks, buses and trains. Bray makes up stories about his lego guys going on a bus to school to learn how to be a pilot.

Braylan stands with the fridge door open for long periods of time at night looking for snacks.

We make crafts a lot. Grayson loves his ExerSaucer so he bounces around a little while we get artsy!

I got our wall display done on one of our living room walls!

WEDDING: Allison + Kenny

Monday, February 17th, 2014

These are our very close friends… and was so happy to be a part of their day! I was super pregnant and they were so awesome to me the whole day. The old saying it’s good luck to rain on your wedding day came into effect here. They absolutely do not need any luck though. You can look at them and know their love it real. They have teal/vintage inspired theme. Allison made so many of the details down to the bridesmaids head bands.

My boys

Friday, January 31st, 2014

So the word busy… I never imagined it could mean more than it already did before having another kid. :) Yikes. Working, Braylan starting school, being up for hours at night with Grayson, house work, Dr. appointments, taxes, cooking… I could go on and on. I also reinjured my back. From 28 weeks on my back and sciatic nerve was terrible. This past month I’ve had a hard tine with lifting my chunky monkey.

So you will see a little of what we’ve been up too. Braylan has been exploring his feelings. I’m happy, I’m mad, I’m sad… I knows exactly what they all mean and tells me! His facial expressions usually say it all too! I have been taking pics of me and Grayson every 4 weeks to show his growth. Plus I always said I would never match my kids… and I did. I don’t like to always do it but I had to this once!

FAMILY: Dixon

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Every year I get excited to shoot the Dixon family session. Last year we went to the beach and this year Jenna said she wanted woods and something more rustic. I took them to a place that is one of my favorites and right up the street from where I grew up. I love using the old garage door… the hill me and the neighborhood kids used to sled down and back where the first Boyne Falls School used to me.

CHILDREN: Beau and Westyn

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

These little country boys are one of my best friends kids! She is expecting another May 2014. :) So excited! I love sharing memories with her and our kids. For the last couple years we do their summer shoot around Beau’s birthday in July on their farm.

Busy week!

Monday, October 14th, 2013

What a super busy last week of shooting. I am now only editing and designing until my boy gets here. So much to catch up on and get ready! It was a super beautiful week and the colors couldn’t have been better.

Brittany+Eric

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

This is one of my best friend’s Britt and her husband Eric. On August 24th I stood up as a bridesmaid and partially photographed their wedding. I had a lot of help from my sister and a few others who attended the wedding (friends) that also grabbed a camera for some candids. I will do a full blog post on all the 2012 and 2013 weddings I photographed but I really wanted to share this one right now. I have 7 weeks until our new little guy is here and as always I play catch up. Super happy with how busy I have been over the last couple years and it will be nice if I can get to a point in my business to take a real break from work to spend time with my family.

You will notice the collage at the end if from their first look. I have to say it couldn’t have gone better and if you are thinking about doing first look also… I say DO IT! It saves time after the ceremony, relaxes nerves and is just simply fun. If you visit Castle Farms blog you will see a post I just was a part of about first looks.

Elleana: Snow White Themed Shoot

Thursday, August 8th, 2013

As a little girl I wanted to be a Disney princess and my niece Elleana is no different. I had a last minute idea when my mom showed me a dress she got for her. Just out in my sisters yard we did a quick 20 minute shoot and it’s my favorite to date! She loved playing Snow White… I can’t believe she is 4 years old. My son Braylan followed her around and told her he was taking her pictures and to say cheese. Thank goodness she didn’t… oh the word cheese it makes me cringe. His toy camera taught him that! Darn thing. I have a theme just for Braylan coming soon and I can’t wait!

Friday, June 14th, 2013

I have 2 more catching firefly mini session to still shoot but I have to say… these are so much fun!! I just love how awesome this theme is turning out. Parents are so excited with the sneak peeks so-far and editing is so fun! I can’t wait to to photograph more in the next couple days.
