About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. coaphoto.com 231.549.2038

Rachel + Jason

January 31st, 2014

The first snow session of the season! I usually never shoot outside in the winter… but why not embrace Northern Michigan!? These two came up for Christmas to visit family and we did their engagement session. They are getting married ay Castle Farms this October. I’m hoping the colors are super vibrant too! They are so much fun and took the cold like champs. I love meeting couples and getting to hangout before their big day. :)

Bray and Gray :)

December 12th, 2013

Personal post!

Gosh do I love that I get to spend so much time with my boys! So snowy outside and toasty here in the house. Braylan keeps wanting to cuddle with me and his baby brother. The other night we were laying around watching TV and Braylan said he wanted to hold his brother. He was already in his diaper so we pulled off Grayson’s jammies and I am so in love with the pictures we got from them together! Then today I decided to put him in his tie onesie and grab some quick pictures in front of our sliding door since the light was perfect. I was cracking up at the faces he was making and the picking his nose pic. Nothing better than being a mommy!

I also have been writing down all the funny/cute things Braylan says during this time so I can show them when they are older.

What Braylan says:
“Mama! I love Grayson’s ears… they are like crabby patties.”
“HEY STOP eating my mama’s belly. It’s my turn to drink dirty milk.”
“Sorry brother I was bad when we were taking your pictures.”
“Hey Grayson! Watch me go potty.”
“Mom! Where did your belly go?” -SO WORRIED
“Grayson want to smell my arm pits?”
“I love rubbing my brothers head softly.”
“Don’t vacuum! Your scaring my brotherrrrrrr…..” -Braylan is scared of the vacuum
“Why does Grayson make them sounds all the time?” -He grunts constantly

I can’t believe how much they are looking alike!

Grayson Jonah Blackwell

December 8th, 2013

We have been blessed with our baby boy at last.
Grayson Jonah was born on 11-30-13
9:41pm – 21in. – 8lbs 14oz

He is amazing and we are all soaking up every second!
Braylan has been beyond awesome. Kisses and I love you’s all day long. He wants to help and says some of the funniest things ever.
We had both Grayson and Braylan at Charlevoix Area Hospital and want to say how much I loved the care we received both time. Of course we love Dr. Jeakle and would never choose another Doctor but the nurses are also so caring and go above and beyond. A special shout of to Vicki. During hard labor she really made a huge difference for me with Grayson. :)

still waiting on our little guy

November 21st, 2013

Oh what better to do when 39 weeks pregnant than to have lots of time to have ideas and no clients to use them on. :) I have never had this much time off… I was still editing the week I brought Braylan home which I’m super happy I won’t have to do. I have a couple late Dec. shoots for clients traveling from afar. So still a while to use these ideas on my own family. Our plan was to have the lil guy a couple weeks early and to be induced but his lungs weren’t ready so we had some time to wait. Now we are almost 40 weeks and I’m getting impatient but reminding myself I’m lucky to carry my kids full term. All I can ask for is for hi to be healthy and to have a safe and natural birth. I hope my next post is of my babies face!

SENIOR: Kendra

November 14th, 2013

This is my Boyne Falls Senior Rep Kendra! I must tell you that this session was one of the most fun senior sessions I have done. We braves the elements and got some awesome shots. I wrote this on my facebook sneak preview after I took her pictures… but at the end of her session we were running for tree coverage fro the pouring down rain. Not to mention my baby belly was already large and it was probably a sight to see. We can across wild animals in the bushes… it was hot. We were laughing the whole time. Then I would say, “Okay let’s to a serious one.” And then we would laugh more. :) So fun!

CHILDREN: Lundy

These two are just the cutest! He loves his little sissy so much he hugs her and is so darn nice. And look at that tutu!

ENGAGEMENT: Toree and Ryan

November 13th, 2013

I’m so happy this awesome couple booked me for their engagement and wedding photos! From the second we started shooting their session I already knew we were such a great fit. They are getting married next June at Castle Farms and my mind is already going crazy with ideas for them. I can’t wait!

LIFESTYLE NEWBORN: Fauser

November 13th, 2013

I really love getting to know this family! I photographed them two winters ago in a lifestyle engagement shoot… their wedding was last fall… and now they welcomed their second son into the world this past summer. They invited me to photograph in their home to catch the special moments they share daily. Easton is such a good big brother to Finn! He cracked me up the whole time I was there. :)

FAMILY: Dixon

November 8th, 2013

Every year I get excited to shoot the Dixon family session. Last year we went to the beach and this year Jenna said she wanted woods and something more rustic. I took them to a place that is one of my favorites and right up the street from where I grew up. I love using the old garage door… the hill me and the neighborhood kids used to sled down and back where the first Boyne Falls School used to me.

SENIOR: David

November 8th, 2013

David is a Harbor Springs senior and you would never be able to tell he doesn’t care to have his pictures taken. Him and his mom were down with any ideas I had… I took David’s older sister Maggie’s pictures a couple years ago and am thankful to have them as return clients. There are SO many places to photography in Harbor it’s amazing. All the people we passed smiled at us and said hello. It’s such a warm feeling on every street. I know how some local people feel about all the tourist and out of towners being around in the summer but I have never minded it. I am a huge talker so I like to have conversations with different people and hear their stories.
