About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. 231.549.2038

This is my Boyne Falls Senior Rep Kendra! I must tell you that this session was one of the most fun senior sessions I have done. We braves the elements and got some awesome shots. I wrote this on my facebook sneak preview after I took her pictures… but at the end of her session we were running for tree coverage fro the pouring down rain. Not to mention my baby belly was already large and it was probably a sight to see. We can across wild animals in the bushes… it was hot. We were laughing the whole time. Then I would say, “Okay let’s to a serious one.” And then we would laugh more. :) So fun!

David is a Harbor Springs senior and you would never be able to tell he doesn’t care to have his pictures taken. Him and his mom were down with any ideas I had… I took David’s older sister Maggie’s pictures a couple years ago and am thankful to have them as return clients. There are SO many places to photography in Harbor it’s amazing. All the people we passed smiled at us and said hello. It’s such a warm feeling on every street. I know how some local people feel about all the tourist and out of towners being around in the summer but I have never minded it. I am a huge talker so I like to have conversations with different people and hear their stories.

This past year I have been very blessed with awesome seniors! This is Sawyer… her, her mom and sister traveled up here to Harbor Springs from downstate to have me shoot her session. I’m sooo glad that she did! We walked around town and the beaches to find so many great spots. We had a weather scare but it ended up staying clear and the lighting was fantastic!

This is one of my beautiful senior spokesmodels Kendra! We had so much fun out in the snow yesterday…
I can’t wait for her full session in the summer. She is graduating in 2014 and will be helping me to book her friends!

I wanted to show some different edits here. I like to play a little with color and lighting. :)

This girl is soooo photogenic. It was so easy to do her shoot. I had the different places in mind that I wanted to go. Her cousin and aunt came along for her session too. Along the way we saw some other family/friends around town that also joined us. :) Honestly that is the exact reason I love living in a small town. Some people probably say the opposite… but I love catching up with people and we are such a little close knit community.

I’m trying to look through all my sessions from the past year I haven’t posted. I have a lot to go.

I love fall sessions… but this year I was so busy running around because I got slammed at the last minute with a ton of sessions at once. I had a hard time saying no. This year I highly advise clients to plan ahead. I have a couple family sessions booked already for fall.

This is Abbie! She’s a Boyne Falls senior… we went to one of my favorite places to shoot outdoors. Her mom was so funny giving her poses to do beside me. I love that I can see parents with one eye and they don’t know I’m watching them. :) The leaves were bright and full of color… and the weather was beautiful.

This girl really knows her angles. She was so good with her own poses and has the most beautiful hair… AND clothes! Her and her mom came to her shoot and they were down with any places or ideas I had. I’ve been experimenting more and more with lighting and editing for seniors. I also spend a lot more time with their pictures and in their sessions. I have new packages and options for 2012 with my pricing that I think with help a lot.

This is Peter… I don’t get a ton of senior guys so when I do get them I always try to make them feel as comfortable as possible. Funny thing is Peter came with his sisters and mom. I probably smiled the entire session straight at them trying to get him to smile! They have a farm and live right next to the railroad tracks so we did his outside pics right at his house. My I can’t pick a fave here because I have a few I REALLY love. This kid should be a model… I told him so too!

SENIOR: Danielle

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

I went to Boyne Falls School and can remember since I started my business every year when the first senior from Boyne Falls books a session. Danielle was the first this year and she was down for ALL my ideas. It was a super nice warm fall day and I had her climbing up trees, up a hill to get to the railroad tracks, climb up rocks for a waterfall AND jump in freezing cold water. Sorry Danielle… but again I love my job when I’m shooting because it is so fun most of the time!
