My son

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

My favorite thing to do with my son (other than cuddle) is to play outside and explore. He points out all the things he knows the words for, asks questions and still wants me to hold his hand. I am so lucky that I get to spend so much time with him and I wouldn’t have it any other way! He is growing and learning… surprising us everyday. Recently he has also been testing us like any 2 year old will. I try very hard to put him in time out without laughing. It’s so odd to be mad and smile at the same time right? I just wonder how would a small toddler think to even do that?

It’s been unseasonably warm so we have beeb playing outside a lot. I decided to bring along my camera and try to get some pictures much like the ones I did about a year ago when Braylan started to walk. It’s amazing to me what a difference one year makes.

a girl or a boy…..?

Friday, January 11th, 2013

My sister and her family will find out this Monday 1/14/13 if they will have a boy or girl. I’m having a contest on my facebook page to see what my fans think! I will choose a correct guess (random) to win a Center of Attention Photography T-shirt that night!

Here is the link!

My life!

Saturday, December 8th, 2012

First of all… My niece Elleana has some big news! We have been so excited!! It’s all she will talk about and she is already planning what her and the baby will do when it gets here. She REALLY wants a sister.

My mom took some family pictures for us this year. I love them because it really captured who we are. A little crazy… and super playful.

This is the outside of my new studio! After planning to build I decided to rent in Boyme City downtown. I have already felt the love from other business owners and have had some new clients along with my loyal ones come get a session here!

more randomness

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Wedding season is in full swing! I will have a sneak peek shortly from my first wedding last Friday. It was SO fun! Today the bride called to thank me and said such nice things I got teary! I love my job…

So I love all types of photography. I couldn’t ever put myself in a box and only photograph or edit one thing or way. No way! I have recently been asked more and more to edit my images with vintage tones. I have been the last few sessions a lot more and I have to say I love the results. Everyone isn’t going to love every image I take or the way I edit it. Facebook is there with people to remind you of that. I want to post this picture edited in different ways to see what the popular opinion was. I still edit the images in color and then I add random vintage and color tones also.

So the picture below is on my little love bug son sleeping. He had been a terrible sleeper since the night he was born. I tried the advice of having background noise always going… ran the dishwasher and washer… I started working again shortly after having him and I was too not getting very much sleep or work done. I always say, “do you what you have to do.” That means me needing to work when I can. I often hold him during his nap and edit on my laptop with one hand. Yep. I have been putting him on his mini couch/bed but he wakes up after 20-25 minutes. I work at night when he is in bed until the early hours of morning because I get a lot more done. My babysitter comes usually twice a week for a few hours and man I don’t know how I did it now before! She is wonderful and my son adores her. She was in Hawaii for the past week and it is great to have her back! :)

Last but not least! My STUDIO. Slooooooowly but surely it’s making progress. Obviously not as fast as I want it done! I have a million ideas and I am going nuts waiting. My mom and sister were going through some old pictures from my great grandpa’s stuff. They found some awesome pictures and 2 old cameras. I can’t wait to use them in my studio! It means so much to be to have family heirlooms in there.

Oh little blog…

Friday, May 18th, 2012

I make wishes a lot for more time to work. Shooting, editing, emailing, calling, designing, prop hunting, burning CD’s, packaging, mailing, a rare blog or fb post… What I really need is more time to just kick it with my son in the yard on a warm evening. What can you do? I LOVE my job and the biggest thing is managing business and family. My in-home babysitter graduates from high school in 2 weeks and she will be watching my little man more so I think you will see more posts here. Oh yes. And a new website.

Florida

Monday, May 7th, 2012

It’s been a week since we got back from our family vacation to Florida. We stayed in St. Pete Beach and the weather was great. We had our ups and downs with a sick one year old… but he did his best. Hopefully it’s a stage but you will see his face in the pictures… he hates the water! Ocean… pools… even the bath in St. Pete. :) Here is a couple pics I had a chance to edit. I will post more when I get a chance to go through them. I am catching up editing and designing some albums and shooting a few sessions this week.

Get to know me…

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Hi! I’m Erika! I have a passion for photography… seriously! I also use the dot dot dot thing a lot. It’s what I do. I also use the smiley. :) I can’t help it!! I’m pretty much always smiling. Sometimes my cheeks and jaw hurt after my son does something cute or I’m at a session/wedding. There is so much in life to be happy and thankful about. I also jump topics a lot when I talk. Back to the passion thing. If you personally know me you know that I eat, sleep, take care of my son, and talk/work photography. I can’t help it! I have so many ideas and plans it’s crazy to keep up with. It’s helpful and hurtful I think. I totally underestimate myself sometimes and I feel like I need to fit in with other photographers to keep my business growing. I have come to realize that I have my own style and yes sometimes I do get some inpiration from others BUT I need to get doing what I do. It’s very hard to keep up with people opening photography businesses and trying to stay current and up to date. Okay on to some Q&A’s!

When did you decide to become a photographer?
Shortly after taking my brother’s senior pictures fall of 2004. I borrowed my aunts camera and LOVED it! I had a couple of my friends “model” for some pictures… hung a few posters around town and it all kind of started there. This was before myspace or facebook was the in thing.

If you weren’t a photographer what would you be?
I think I would love to do event/wedding planning. I help my friends and family with their weddings all the time and it’s so fun to be creative. That or own my own children’s boutique/resale.

Future goals?
To keep growing. We are building a new bigger studio this year and updating/adding new camera equiptment. Hopefully in the future I will hire someone full time to work with me. I also want to go to some photography confrences and workshops. It never hurts to keep learning!

Best advice from another photographer?
Shoot what you enjoy and not what you feel you have to. I stopped photographing babies between the ages of 15 days-6 months. Lots of reasons why for me… I love shooting newborns when they are sleepy and easy to pose. There comes a point where they are wide awake with very little facial expression. I’m all about wanting this to be capured on a personal level but a whole photoshoot is hard.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of your business?
Obvious choice here… spend time with my family. I love going to the mall even when I don’t need anything. I just love to hangout and watch my one year old interact with people. He’s a ham! I love going to the beach, park, or anywhere I get to just relax.

Other fun facts:
I’m 27
I love reality tv
I really want a tattoo but I hate needles
I have a sister and a brother
As of right now Aunt to 3 but the number is growing
I love lemons
I want to change the colors of our walls all the time
I love to throw parties
We even have pictures hung in our bathroom
I’ve been with Josh since he was 15 and I was 16
I am obsessed with baby names and love hearing about how names came to be
I have 3 cameras and 3 computers
I’ve been to Hawaii, Florida, Ohio, Canada… SO-FAR

Got a question for me? Shoot!

Braylan+Snowwww

Monday, March 5th, 2012

My son has not been the biggest fan of snow. He likes to say, “snowwwwwwww” but when it comes to the cold stuff no way! We got him all dressed warm took him out and the second he got some on him he balled. So we waited a while and let him get used to the idea… took him out again a couple weeks later and still not a fan. We have a super hard time finding any type of footwear for him because he has a chubby wide big foot for a baby. He is now walking and someone suggested rainboots. We went and found some at a local store and they didn’t have his size… I try as much as possible to shop locally and I hope everyone else reading my blog does too. I could go on and on about that subject but I think we all know why it’s important. Long story short I had to order some online. We got them in last Friday and I had the bright idea to take him back out. It was before we got a the huge snow storm and the roads were bare. He loved it! Now I think it’s time to try again with actually playing in the snow and maybe he will keep his mittens on.
