About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan and Grayson. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am a mommy & artist. I care about the ones I love like crazy, I love to have fun. I make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I can usually be found smiling. I get inspired very easily. 231.549.2038

The first snow session of the season! I usually never shoot outside in the winter… but why not embrace Northern Michigan!? These two came up for Christmas to visit family and we did their engagement session. They are getting married ay Castle Farms this October. I’m hoping the colors are super vibrant too! They are so much fun and took the cold like champs. I love meeting couples and getting to hangout before their big day. :)

ENGAGEMENT: Toree and Ryan

I’m so happy this awesome couple booked me for their engagement and wedding photos! From the second we started shooting their session I already knew we were such a great fit. They are getting married next June at Castle Farms and my mind is already going crazy with ideas for them. I can’t wait!

Engagement: Erica and Rob

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

These two were driving up from downstate the morning of their shoot and their truck broke down. They called to tell me they may be running late… they showed up on time… with a speeding ticket. OH MAN. I would have been in the worst mood ever! They were awesome. We joked around a little bit and started on our way. We went to a new location I’ve been wanting to sneak up to. It was a super fun morning with them! It’s so great to get to know people before their wedding… I feel like they are my friends on the day. :)

Ok here is a little sneak peek of an engagement session I’m working on. I have the the BEST luck this summer with engagement sessions! All my couples are super photogenic and FUN! :)

This is my “little” brother Josh! Him and Lindsey just got married this past weekend and I couldn’t wait to share these. I’ve been bugging them for 2 years to get their engagement pictures done and 2 days before their wedding they finally agreed. It was a beautiful night at their house… we were only out there for about 10 minutes at 8:30pm and I’m pretty impressed on how many we got! I am pumped to post some of their wedding pictures very soon. :)

just a crop

I wanted to give you a look at some cropping. I like options… I like full body shots… and I love close ups. Everyone likes something different so I just mix it up.

I will post the rest of this really fun session with Erica and Rob very soon!

ENGAGMENT: Maggie and Allen

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

First off I would like to say Thank You to McLean & Eakin Booksellers and Symons General Store in Petoskey for letting us use their beautiful stores. I was excited when Maggie told me where she wanted to go. I don’t usually shoot in places like this but I’m def. going to start looking around and doing more of these type of shoots! They wanted more candid feeling engagement photos. They were so playful and loving and I’m really happy with how the turned out! We shot a few with their cute pie baby Easton. She also love pinterest just as much as me and we’ve seen a couple of these on there… I love the inspiration!

ENGAGEMENT: Beth and Matt

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

I love when people are in love… I love fairytales… I love the happy ending! I have had the pleasure of getting to know this super awesome couple. We first met when they came and booked me at the studio. I was very pregnant and Beth made Braylan a hand-maded blanket and brought it with her to that first meeting. Talk about melt my heart!! I took it with me everywhere I went that weekend and showed it off. Then they came up north for their engagement session on Mother’s Day. We meet at Boyne Mt. and I never had to make them kiss or snuggl in… they are so so so natural. Matt THOUGHT he wasn’t photogenic but I think the pics prove otherwise! The last time I saw them was on their wedding day. I will save the details for when I post those but it was a beautiful day.

Engagement: Paige and Dustin

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

As I said below I am going in a super random order to post these blogs. I work off 3 computers and have started to delete my early work that has already been backed up before I had the chance to blog so there will be lots more to post from my other computer.

Ok… meet Paige and Dustin! These are our good friends. This past Sept. we were both in their wedding at Castle Farms. I didn’t photograph it because it would have been so hard standing up in the wedding party and shooting. I have to say it was super odd to just not have to do anything photo-wise at a wedding. It’s my second nature so I was a bit uncomfortable to be honost! I did get my camera out at the reception after the photographer left (didn’t want to step on toes during major parts.) I haven’t even had a chance to look through them… I’m waiting until my client weddings are done. :) Business first! Anyways a little bit more about Dustin and Paige. My husband and Dus has worked together at the East Jordan Iron Works for the past 6 (I think-ish) years. Paige and him got together around the same time we bought our new house (Fall ’08) and I remember him bringing her here to see it for the first time. How time flies! These two were a HUGE help almost one year ago when I was in labor with my son. They were our first friends at the hospital and Paige (along with a few family members) was there until the end. And again…. HUGE POST!

I’ve been terrible at blogging! I have so many sessions to upload I figured I would start somewhere. My laptop has been in getting fixed so I’ve been a little behind. My little man is popping up teeth and crawling like crazy! My summer is almost over in a blink of an eye. I am so lucky I choose my own hours and get to spend so much time with my son.

Ok now about this post… This is one of my best friend’s Brittany. Her and Eric met in collage and have lived in Ann Arbor for almost all of their relationship. She got a job up north and he stayed down state. Well fast forward a little. Eric decided to take work in Japan and before he left he popped the question. We didn’t have a lot of time to get these pictures so it was a last minute session right before he left in June. We had so much fun taking these!
