About The Photographer

Hi! My name is Erika Blackwell and I am the photographer of Center of Attention Photography. My business is located in Northern Michigan. My blog is a way for everyone to view some of my favorite images from recent sessions and get to know me! I am the VERY proud mommy to Braylan. I LOVE what I do and I hope you can tell! These are not JUST pictures I take. I create memories... My heart and soul go into my work. I care about my clients and get to know them and learn what they like and dislike. I am an artist. A business woman. I love to have fun. I love to sing. Dance. Make crazy sounds to get those smiles. I am very open! I LOVE oreos and soymilk. I dream big. I have tons of ideas. I cry during touching ceremonies and awesome reception speeches. I try not to be messy but it happens. I have so many new faces to meet this year and just thinking about it makes me excited! coaphoto.com 231.549.2038

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

This is a little update post. We have had so many virus’ this winter! We almost get better and one of us wake up with something again. Hopefully this time we kick it for good. I have lots of updates and fun ideas to come!

In this post I have two little newborn boys. A lifestyle session at one my clients home. PLUS my bestfriends little guys. I love balloons lately. I saw this quote recently, “Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.” ~Marc Brown It sparked the idea for their little superhero picture.

These are some friends of mine… I just love taking pictures of them. They are so fun, stylish, photogenic and loving. The kids did so great! When I was doing a parent pic Ambrielle kept wanting to join. I was cracking up!

I’ve been on a good role taking pictures of my little man this winter. I’m a little proud of myself. Last year he hated my camera so I would give up for periods of time. Today my sister and neice had an “ice day” from school so before my husband went to work we dropped by the studio. I’ve had this idea since last Valentine’s day. I had the kissing booth last year… this year I thought we would keep it clean and cute. Tomorrow I will post Elleana’s take. :)

SNOW!

Sunday, January 27th, 2013

I used to LOVE playing outside in the snow when I was a kid. We would go skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, build forts, pull eachother on sleds around our little town… Now I hate being cold. My son doesn’t like to get snow on him or like sledding. I feel like I am such a downer on winter. I actually never used to do outside sessions in the winter because I’m a wimp. This year I decided we live in such a beautiful place and I am wasting amazing photo opportunities. Yesterday it was 20° and I did 2 outside snow boudoirs (such brave awesome girls) and today it was 27° and had this amazing family. I have so many more pictures I want to post but they must wait until I play catch up. Here is a sneak peek of some fun.

Reading with our boy…

Monday, January 21st, 2013

Yesterday we stayed home most of the day relaxing. I got a little editing done. We played. Bray took a good nap. It snowed most of the day…. I’m so happy because up until a couple months ago Braylan didn’t like books. Seriouly. I would read books while he was taking a bath or playing. Now he loves them so much. It makes my heart happy! His favorite books right now are the Tickle Monster, Pirates Don’t Change Diapers and Goodnight Construction Site.

Cooper is ONE!

Some people you immediately click with… I feel like from the moment I met Stephanie and Marc at their maternity session we have clicked. I have just LOVED taking their pictures! I have had the pleasure of photographing them and watching Cooper grow to one years old. He is such a handsome little dude. Every session he has been so happy! You will see how fun they are!!

My son

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

My favorite thing to do with my son (other than cuddle) is to play outside and explore. He points out all the things he knows the words for, asks questions and still wants me to hold his hand. I am so lucky that I get to spend so much time with him and I wouldn’t have it any other way! He is growing and learning… surprising us everyday. Recently he has also been testing us like any 2 year old will. I try very hard to put him in time out without laughing. It’s so odd to be mad and smile at the same time right? I just wonder how would a small toddler think to even do that?

It’s been unseasonably warm so we have beeb playing outside a lot. I decided to bring along my camera and try to get some pictures much like the ones I did about a year ago when Braylan started to walk. It’s amazing to me what a difference one year makes.

Indian River Mini’s

Sunday, August 19th, 2012

I had a fun mini session event with these three families in Indian River this summer. A super nice lady let us use her awesome yard and I was walking around with my mouth dropped open. It was so full of so many cool things I was having a blast.

Holy cow how is it August!? I told my husband today in the car that I wonder that in the summer months and in the winter I’m shocked that is ONLY whatever month it is. I am always on the go or doing something… and so is this little one year old. I last took her pictures when she was a newborn. She was very busy at her session but I enjoyed capturing whatever she was doing. It was super fun!

I got to be on the other side of the camera this past weekend. We went a couple hours downstate to get our own family pictures taken. I can’t believe it took me 20 months to do it but now I can hardly stand waiting and it’s only been one day. The second it was done I told our photographer Melanie that I don’t know how people wait! I totally know now what everyone who asks early feels like. I am going to resist but it will be hard. My son was focused on treats and not so much wanting to join us taking pictures but I’m sure we got some!
